I wonder if the City Council election results would have been different if Trasoff and Uhlich came out strong and early against Prop 200. I know the smart money consultants said, Play it safe, you can't be against increasing police and fire protection. But what if they didn't [...]

Now that local elections are all but over for the counting in Tucson (and a possible recount in Ward 3), it's time once again to update the early filers with the Arizona Secretary of State for 2010. You can play along at home at [www.azsos.gov]
The big news' [...]
Update: From what we understand, there are over 3,000 ballots left to count, 700 duplicate ballots and 2,625 provisionals.
Pima County Elections just posted new numbers. The Tucson Ward 3 election has narrowed to just 240 votes. Karin Uhlich is still ahead of Ben Buehler-Garcia but her margin is fading [...]
Word is that between 5,000 and 7,000 ballots were transfered from the recorder’s office to the county elections office this morning and at 1:00 the counting process had started. By this afternoon, we should have new numbers.
There is also word that these ballots come from Wards 2 and 4, where [...]

A h/t to Flounder for a comment he posted earlier, "I think one of the biggest takeaways of the elections last night are that the right-wings TABOR Amendments failed in Maine and Washington."
During the Special Session this past summer, the Accidental Governor and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Sen. [...]

Off-year elections are typically the subject of wild speculation and over interpretation by political observers. The conventional wisdom (CW) of the media villagers and Beltway bloviators is that the governor's races in New Jersey and Virginia are "bellwether elections" that are a "referendum" on newly elected presidents and' [...]
It's illegal to bet on elections and I don't know anything about sports, so with the exception of a short--but successful--stint at professional blackjack, I don't gamble much. But if betting on elections were legal, the Tucson City Council race would be my pick of the week.
The race should be' [...]
Well, it’s only been 7 months since Tax Day, the start of the Tea Party and DHS’s report on ‘Right Wing Extremists’… and the Gila Courier has finally found our first confirmed “RWE”.
Just a reminder that elections are THIS TUESDAY! Be sure to encourage your friends, family [...]

Shaun McClusky is a political neophyte. Hell, he admits that he wasn't politically active and didn't even bother to vote in city elections before he was recruited by the GOP to run for city council. So I know the latest actions are being directed [...]
My weekly round up of stuff I was too lazy and neglectful to write about last week:
- Shaun McClusky makes things too easy for me. In response to a question posed by opponent Richard Fimbres, he admitted that the reason that he didn’t vote in city elections because he [...]
For years, the electronic voting companies have kept the codes that run their voting systems a deep, dark secret, saying it was propriety information -- essentially making our elections wholly owned subsidiaries of private companies.
But Riverside County requests for the code have borne fruit, according to Brad [...]
Growing up in Tucson, I thought that city elections were supposed to be partisan just like legislative and Congressional elections. When I moved to Phoenix, I realized that Tucson's system was unusual. When I became less naive about politics, I realized that Tucson's system was designed to designed to disenfranchise [...]
If you follow elections closely, you will recall that last year's Mayoral race in Scottsdale had...gasp...partisan "overtones." It's not like Mayoral Candidate Jim Lane sent out any mail pronouncing that he was a Republican, but he did get the endorsements of a few Republican Congressmen and one of the independent [...]
