Hey all, we’ve got a couple of new features on the HTO comments:
• The RSS comments feed now tells you who is making the comment. This was a direct response to a reader request.
• While Top HTO Brain Todd Davidson was doing that, I asked him how hard [...]
Hey all, a couple of new features I wanted to point out:
We’ve updated BloomingtonScene.com. The new site is built as a blog, so you can comment on stories, and more easily find what you’re looking for. The site also emphasizes our ginormous Get Out events calendar. We expect [...]
OK, let me run through some new things on the site and off-site (AKA the things keeping me away from blogging):
FindItBtown.com: Local search site. A massive directory with all local info.
Down to Earth: New environmental site. Cool stuff here (carbon calculator; local green search engine; videos; etc.) [...]
We were scheduled to have Dale Armstrong, the new CEO at Monroe Hospital in today at 11 to chat with readers.
11:05 came, and no sign of Mr. Armstrong.
Health and medicine reporter Dann Denny called Armstrong’s office, and it seemed there was a scheduling conflict.
I’ve saved all the questions you submitted [...]
By the way, this is off topic completely, but I have noticed that since the HTO added the “report this comment” button, we’ve all been playing nice (and more civilized) and I’ve actually enjoyed the comments so much more. I think the addition of that button has made us [...]
HTO has just added pre-roll advertisements to its news videos.
What this means is when you click to view one of our news videos, you will first watch a 10- to 15-second video advertisement.
The pre-rolls are not “attached” to specific news videos; instead, they rotate based on how many views [...]
We get it, you can see the new exclamation point in the comments section on HTO.
That, my friends, is the “report inappropriate posts” button. It doesn’t need tested. It’s been tested.
Each time you click it, it sends an email to the web staff alerting them to a problem comment. [...]
Rule No. 2: Don’t threaten to “string someone up” by any part of their anatomy. Ever.
Strangely, this has come up a number of times. The first time was in relation to seemingly an entire race of people. That was horrible. Those comments were taken down, and the poster blocked from [...]
Have you seen the HTO blogs page recently?
Thanks to my man Scott Taylor on HTO, this page has just become cleaner and much more organized. Blogs are now broken up into news, sports, entertainment and community, and every blog has a feed.
Scott also created a “blog graveyard,” where we [...]
One of the most frequent complaints we get on HTO is about our send-a-story function. Because we have a paid web site, if you were to click the send-a-story link and e-mail the story to a friend, they would have to be a subscriber or have a login to read [...]
Hey gang, I’m back from vacation, and trying to get back in the swing of things.
Since I’ve been back, I’ve seen several comments (these being the most recent) saying folks can’t find our online videos.
You can always find all of our videos on the /media page under the [...]
Next time you’re on HTO, check the menu options at the top.
We’ve added a new subsection to the site, the Datacenter. (It’s just a fancy way of grouping all of our searchable databases in one spot — salaries, property transfers, restaurant revenue, campaign contributions, etc.)
You’ll still find links [...]
Here are some comments made the past couple of days on HTO. I consider these to be great examples of the FOUR STAGES OF LOST USER COMMENTS:
Confusion
There were four comments on this article last night but they mysteriously disappeared…
Questioning
Awww…. what happened to all the funny comments? [...]
You guys are the best.
[...]A big HTO welcome to Jeff Frick, our new Web designer, etc. He started today at HTO headquarters (in a dark corner between the H-T newsroom and editorial library).
Jeff joins a staff consisting of yours truly, Todd, Scott and Svetlana. Small but mighty I say!
The new guy couldn’t have started [...]
Lots of “extra” stuff from the Mayor’s State of the City speech:
* Reaction video
* Full text of the speech
* Full audio of the speech
I know you all love our online discussions. That’s why we keep booking them!
