Here's an interesting article on tying newspaper sites in with the social media phenomenon. http://www.nieman.harvard.edu/reportsitem.aspx?id=100697 What's more important? Having user-generated news, announcements etc. on our site or building connections into the Facebook world? Or both... Thinking on this. [...]

JJ sent a link to me to a nice new news site in Redding, CA. Redding is a nice town near Mt. Shasta in NorCal. This site includes some of the elements we'll be going for in August. Videos, events plus the news on the front page. I don't care for [...]

Recently you've probably noticed that we've been using these large 'wraparound' ads on our site. [caption id="attachment_93" align="alignright" width="150" caption="HTO wrap ad"][/caption] We've never heard a word from any readers about them, which we've found pretty surprising. The situation, June 2009: Our existing HTO layout and structure has been in place since March of 2007, believe it or not, time flies. We've long had some pretty big ideas about what HTO could be and how our users would like to use it. Our advertising offerings are changing rapidly' [...]

HTO has just added pre-roll advertisements to its news videos.

What this means is when you click to view one of our news videos, you will first watch a 10- to 15-second video advertisement.
