Parking lot 31A in Bethesda, MD on the corner of Bethesda Ave and Woodmont Ave is closed for the next 60 days or so for utility relocation. This is the really small parking lot, not the big one across the street. The closure is part [...]

This fountain is practically next to last week's one, however, architecturally they couldn't be more different. The other fountain in Bethesda Place Plaza is more of a large shallow pool. This is a more traditional fountain and has a raised stone 'roof' It is on [...]
The definition of a fountain can be hard to pin down. Do you really need water spraying in the air? I don't think so. In the middle of Bethesda Place Plaza is a large shallow pool with rocks in it. On weekends you see kids jumping' [...]
It is that time a year again, everyone dresses up and dances around the Christmas tree before going trick-or-treating.
Every now and then I walk by the construction on Woodmont Avenue between Hampden Lane and Elm Street in Bethesda, MD just to see how it is progressing. Sometimes they have some neat pieces of construction equipment, including this one, which I had never seen before. [...]
A number of the office buildings in Bethesda, MD have fountains out front in a public plaza. This one is on the ever so uniquely named "East Lane" between Montgomery Lane and Hampden Lane. Behind the fountain is an abstract mural made with muted colors.

This fountain right at the top of the big escalator at Bethesda Metro Station and by the bus bays is arguably part of the last fountain I highlighted. This fountain is noisy, noisy enough to be heard even when there are idling buses around it. [...]

Now that the Purple Line is going to be light rail for sure (unless they change their mind) I thought I would look in to it a bit more. I decided to go to San Jose, CA and take a look at their light rail. In [...]
Five months ago they started updating part of Elm Street park, I wrote about it then. In mid June I wrote an update. It looked like they were on track to finish the park in July. I even found this Gazette article. What [...]

All morning Pepco has been doing some utility work on Northbound Wisconsin Avenue (MD-355) between Montgomery Avenue and East-West Highway. The slightly-old fashioned sign at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad on Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda, MD has been replaced. The old one was one of those signs with the clip on black and red letters. The new one is a large red LED message sign [...]

I noticed on Monday that they changed this traffic light at Arlington Road and Montgomery Lane by the library in Bethesda, MD. It used to be flashing red until the walk light came on, then it would go to solid red, now it is a standard [...]

Bethesda, MD has a number of fountains and over the coming weeks I will post a series of pictures to show hopefully all of them. I'll start with what is probably the most well known of them, the one in front of the Borders books store' [...]
Out front of Lionsgate Condominiums on the corner of Woodmont Avenue and Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda, MD are two lion sculptures. Od manes, long tails and definitely male. [...]

I was walking around Bethesda, MD today at lunch time and a huge bank of dark clouds started rolling in. Farther away you could still see blue sky. The clouds were threatening but didn't produce any rain.' [...]
I have been meaning to go to Chicken on the Run for about 6 months but somehow never got around to it. Earlier this week I finally made it. They serve charcoal roasted peruvian chicken and a number of different sides. Service is very quick, [...]
There is an inherent problem with putting everything in all caps and not having punctuation. I had to read this sign more than once to figure out what it really meant. I mean, if the "UNATTENDED PLAYGROUND CHILDREN" are "ACCOMPANIED BY PARENT" then they aren't really' [...]

The six-car train derailed and then collided with another train between the Takoma Park and Fort Totten [...]
This tiny gray store at the corner of Old Georgetown Road and Greentree Road in Bethesda, MD has been around forever (Actually "only" since 1924). For some reason, when I was a kid it was called "Browns" although I never knew why (was the owner named [...]

I saw this tree with some really odd fruits on it. A lot were green but they were turning red as they ripen. Some however, were oddly spikey with only the tips of the spikes turning redish. I'm guessing they are infected with something and aren;t' [...]
Back in January I made a couple of posts about the bank on Cordell Ave that was demolished (see "Bank Demolition" and "A bare lot"). Well, here it is the end of May and you can see the new building starting to take shape [...]
